Mahatma Gandhi played a very important role in the liberation of India. His peaceful and non-violent methods ( or well known as Ahimsa) united India to fight for independence.
He visited Assam four times and extended his non-cooperation movement to the state. He also propagated the importance of khadi work and the removal of untouchability.
His visit was of historical significance as he was the one to inaugurate the branch of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust and also a Gram Sevikas Vidyalaya under this branch, both in the state of Assam.
