Chief Executive. The president is the "boss" for millions of government workers in the Executive Branch. He or she decides how the laws of the United States are to be enforced and chooses officials and advisors to help run the Executive Branch.

ROLE OF PRESIDENT IN INDIA :-

  • He must be a citizen of India.
  • He must be above 35 years of age.
  • He holds office for 5 years.
  • He is eligible for re-election.
  • Salary Rs 50,000 per month.
  • The chief justice of India makes him take the oath of secrecy.
  • If he is to resign , he must hand over his resignation to the Vice President.
  • He is the supreme commander of the Defence Forces.
  • He can declare war and make peace.
  • He appoints Governors, the chief justice, Judges of supreme court , judges of High Court.
  • He governs the Union Territories directly.
  • Any bill passed by the Parliament must get his O.K.
  • He can nominate 12 members to the Rajya Sabha.  
  • He can nominate 2 Anglo - Indian members to the Lok Sabha.
  • He can dissolve Lok Sabha and order for fresh elections.
  • He can grant pardons and remit punishment.
  • He is not answerable to any court of law.
  • He can suspend the entire constitution or some Article of it under emergency conditions.
