The Kheda Satyagraha was a Satyagraha movement organised by Gandhiji in 1918. It is regarded as a major revolt in the Indian Independence movement. People of Kheda were unable to pay the high taxes levied by the British due to crop failure and plaque epidemic.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a chief figure in the Kheda Satyagraha also called as chief lieutenant of Gandhi.

Patel and his colleagues organised a major tax revolt and caste communities of Kheda rallied around it. The peasants of Kheda signed a petition for the tax of that year to be scrapped off due to the famine. The British Government rejected the petition and warned for the payment of taxes or else the seizure of properties.

Peasants couldn't pay the taxes and as a result, the lands and cattles of peasants were seized but the peasants still stayed in support of Vallabhbhai. Other people of Gujarat also came forward to support the peasants.

The government then agreed on returning the seized land and suspending the taxes for the year and next.
