since we all know that evaporation decreases temperature of the place.So the water present in the planet absorbs or steals the heat to evaporate and become vapour which will eventually become cloud and this the way through which water maintains the temperature of the globe when in liquid form. But when it is in vapour form it absorbs more sunlight from sun as we know water vapour is an greenhouse gas. So by this way it maintains the atmospheric temperature.
