In 1919, Nehru joined the Indian National Congress which was fighting for greater autonomy from the British. He was heavily influenced by the organisation's leader Mohandas Gandhi. On 15 August 1947, Nehru became the first prime minister of independent India. He held the post until his death in 1964.Nehru played a leading role in the development of the internationalist. Nehru's attitude towards the erstwhile states that became an integral part of India played a crucial role in the framing of the constitution.He was aware that political stability was highly elusive in the plural society of India. He was one of the pioneer of the constituent Assembly. He along with Dr Ambedkar , Sardar Patel, Dr Rajendra Prasad and Maulana Azad played a significant role in the making of the constitution of India.
