The roots are absent in Ceratophyllum.

The Ceratophyllum is a member of the family Ceratophyllaceae, called generally as cocktails or hornworts. They belong to the group Bryophytes.

They usually reside in marshes or ponds floating on the surface without any anchorage. They do not have roots but at times of need, they develop hair like structures for attachment to the bottom.

They have small flowers, "male and female flowers" are "present in the same plant".
