Rs9,000 were divided equally among a certain number of persons. Had there been 20 more persons, each would have got RS160 less. Find the original number persons.

Let the no. of person be x

if rs 9000 was divided among certain no. of person then total no. of peraon = 9000/x

if no of person increased by 20 then
= 9000/x+20

according to the given condition,

9000/x - 9000/x+20 = 160

9000( 1/x - 1/x+20 ) = 160

9000( x+20 - x / x2 + 20x) = 160

9000 ( 20 ) = 160 ×(x2 + 20x)

9000× 20/ 160 = x2 + 20x

1125 = x2 + 20x

x2 + 20x - 1125 = 0
