(a) In minute pores of sponge air is trapped. When pressed, air is expelled out so it is compressible. It is a solidas it has definite shape and volume. (b) Rubber band changes shape under force and regain shape when force is removed.

THOUGH RUBBER BANDS ARE COM PRESSE BALE IT IS A SOLID THIS IS BECAUSE WHEN THE EXTERNAL FORCE IS APPLIED ON IT THAN ONLY ITS SHAPE CHANGES BUT WHEN THE APPLIED EXTERNAL FORCE IS REMOVED THAN IT REGAINS ITS SHAPE.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU
