Rules of past perfect continuous tense

In past perfect continuous tense, we mean to say someone was doing something in the past from some time. The structure of sentence is,
"had" as helping verb + "been" + 1st form of verb+ing and use of since and for
For example,
He had been playing badminton since morning.
That student had been absent for two 2 days.
We use 'since' when we talk from a fixed time e.g since morning, since yesterday, since morning.
We use 'for' when we talk in terms of a calculated time e.g for 2 hours, for 3 weeks, for 1 year
Any confusion?
