The demerits of rural depopulation are –

Shortage of labour for agricultural purposes.

Relentless pressure on urban areas with ever growing demand for water and electricity.

Rural depopulation leads to ignoring agriculture and soil erosion with bio diverse farming.

This problem is highly visible in Matlala area in the Limpopo province of South Africa.

The South African government is leaving no stone unturned to stop the continuous migration to urban centres and large cities in search of work and shelter.

Migration is a century old process, migration from villages to cities is done in search of a better livelyhood, better conditions to live in, better job opportunities and shelter.

EXPLANATION:

This has its own share of positives and negatives, if there’s mass migration from villages to cities then there’s a lot of pressure on the cities and the job opportunities gets drastically less.

People with less qualifications would mostly remain unemployed and it also increases the crime rate.  The 'South African government' tried its best to stop the mass migration.
