To answer this question, we must first know the concept of rust that - Iron gets rusts only when it comes in touch with the moist air.

So, Coastal areas mainly has oceans and seas. Due to this, high percentage of moist and cold air is present in the atmosphere. But the climate in the deserts is very hot. It is even very dry too. Since there is more amount of moisture in coastal areas than the deserts, so iron rusts faster in the coastal parts.
