Answer:

Drawbacks of Rutherford Atomic Model

As before, Rutherford atomic model was also challenged and questioned by many. Rutherford atomic model failed to explain about the stability of electrons in a circular path.

As per Rutherford’s model, electrons revolve around the nucleus in a circular path. But particles that are in motion on a circular path would undergo acceleration, and acceleration causes radiation of energy by charged particles. Eventually, electrons should lose energy and fall into the nucleus. And this points to the instability of atom. But this is not possible because atoms are stable. Hence, Rutherford failed to give an explanation on account of this.

Answer:

heya mate....

rutherfords model of atom was based on alpha particle scattering experiment ....

he bombarded alpha particles on a thin sheet of gold foil....and observed..

→most of the alpha particles passed straight through the gold foil undeviated

→few alpha particles deviated through small angles...

→very few alpha particles ..(1 in 20000) return back to it's original path...

on the basis of these observation ...he proposed his model..

→most of the space outside the nucleus is empty..(he called this part extra nuclear part)

→electrons revolve around the nucleus in certain orbits...

→the radius of nucleus is extremely negligible in comparison to the radius of whole atom

this model has certain drawbacks also...

→it failed to explain the stability of electrons

→it cannot explain the electronic distribution of electrons..

hope u understand and like it ...

thanks♥...
