ajay 10 years back = x

sachin 10 years back = y

2x = y

2x+20= 40

x=10

Ajay's present age = x+10=20

Answer:

Sachin is 30 years old and Ajay is 20 years old.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Sachin was twice as old as ajay 10 years back.

To find : How old is ajay today if sachin will be 40 years old 10 years hence?

Solution :

Let the Sachin's age be 'x'.

Let the Ajay's age be 'y'.

According to question,

Sachin was twice as old as ajay 10 years back.

x-10=2(y-10)

If Sachin will be 40 years old 10 years hence.

i.e. Sachin's today age is x=40-10=30

Substitute in the equation,

30-10=2(y-10)

20=2y-20

2y=40

y=20

Sachin is 30 years old and Ajay is 20 years old.
