Water in Baltic Sea is brackish with low salinity and unique mixture of salty and fresh waters.

Salinity of Baltic Sea is approximately 20% of salinity of oceans (35 per mille).

Moreover salinity of Baltic Sea’s surface water minimizes towards North and water of Bay of Bothnia and at the bottom of Gulf of Finland is very fresh.

Compared to oceans Baltic Sea is small and shallow body of water.

Average depth of Baltic Sea is 54 metres whereas average depth of Atlantic is nearly four kilometres and even Mediterranean’s average depth is 1.5 kilometres.

Deepest basin in Baltic Sea is 450 m.

Baltic Sea linked to North Sea through narrow Danish straits and water turnover is extremely slow.

It's been estimated that turnover of entire volume of water of Baltic Sea takes 30 years.

HEY MATE!!! HERE'S UR ANSWER!!!^_^.

1. The Baltic Sea lies in the temperate zone.

2. In the temperate zone the sun rays are slanting and therefore the temperature is low.

3. The supply of freshwater is more as numerous rivers empty their waters into Baltic Sea.

4. Therefore, inspite of being landlocked due to low rate of evaporation and ample supply of freshwater, the salinity of the Baltic Sea is low.

Some extra knowledge:

1. Sea water has a salinity of 3.5% i.e. the sea water contain about 35 grams of dissolved salt per kg of water ( about 1 litre of water ).

2. This salinity is because of the rivers that carry chemical/salts dissolved out of rocks and soil.

3. NaCl makes the most of this dissolved salt.
