the gas she has collected is co2. because wham charcoal burns in presence of oxygen it forms co2. pass it through lime water (CaO) the lime water will turn milky. white coloured ppt will form which is CaCo3

she can find nature of gas by putting it on wet litmus paper or universal indicator.
Formula of limewater is Ca(OH)2 cso is formula quicklime.
