Sam’s Age=38+x

after 10 years ,

Sam’s age=(38+x)+10 and 3x

38+x+10=3x

48+x=3x

48=3x-x

48=2x

48/2=x

24=x which is sam’s pet’s age

sam’s age =38+x=38+24

                           =62years
