EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

sanjay is now 1/2 as old as his brother.

6 more years he will be 3/5 as old as his brother

What is the present age of each boy?

According to the question,

Let the present age of sanjay = x

Let the present age of brother = 2x

6 more years he will be 3/5 as old as his brother

Therefore,

sanjay age be denoted as = x + 6

brother age be denoted as = 2x + 6

Therefore,

=> ( x + 6 ) = 3/5 ( 2x + 6 )

=> 5 ( x + 6 ) = 3 ( 2x + 6 )

=> 5x + 30 = 6x + 18

=> x = 12

Therefore,

present age of sanjay = x = 12 years.

present age of brother = 2x

2 X 12 = 24 years.

\large{\red{\underline{\underline{\bold{Given:-}}}}}

• Sanjay is 1/2 as old as his brother

• 6 years later Sanjay will be 3/5 as old as his brother

\large{\blue{\underline{\underline{\bold{To\:Find:-}}}}}

• The present age of Sanjay and his brother.

\large{\green{\underline{\underline{\bold{Solution:-}}}}}

Sanjay is 1/2 old as his brother that means His brother is 2 times as old as Sanjay

Let the age of Sanjay be x

Age of his brother = 2x

After 6 years

Age of Sanjay = x + 6

Age if his brother = 2x + 6

Given;
He will be 3/5 old as his brother

So:-

\sf \implies(x + 6) = \dfrac{3}{5} (2x + 6)

By cross multiplication:-

\sf \implies5(x + 6) = {3} (2x + 6)

\sf \implies5x + 30 = 6x + 18

\sf \implies6x - 5x = 30 - 18

\sf \implies x = 12

Therefore:-

Age of Sanjay = x = 12

Age of his brother = 2x = 12×2 = 24

Hence;

 \large\boxed{\sf \pink{ Age \: of \: Sanjay = 12 \: years} }

\large \boxed{\sf \purple{ Age \: of \: his\:brother= 24 \: years} }
