sanjeev ate 1\6 of a cake . he gave 1\5 of the remainder to his friend . he kept the rest of the cake . what fraction of the cake did he keep.

To answer this we can make the denominators equal. Which would make it 1*5/6*5 and 1*6/5*6 which would make it 5/30 and 6/30. In order to know how much he kept the equation would be the addition of the two fractions removed from the whole cake, in terms of fraction it would be

30/30-(5/30+6/30) = how much Sanjeev kept. Which would be 30/30-11/30 and that equals to 19/30.

To conclude Sanjeev kept 19/30 of the cake to himself.
