let the age of his cousin be x

as santosh is 4 four more than the three times the age of his cousin,

now,

3x+4 =age of santosh

3x+ 4 = 49

3x= 49-4

3x=45

x= 45/3 

x= 15

then the age of the cousin of santosh is 15 

in appropriate order,

3(15) + 4= age of santosh 

45 + 4 =age of santosh

49 = age of santosh
