Answer:

The hardest part is the percent change. When I read "12% more", I know this means a multiplier of 1.12 (which is 1+0.12). When I read "15% less", I know this means a multiplier of 0.85 (which is 1-0.15). I've translated the natural language into algebraic language.

first = 4.25

her_best = 1.12*first

her_best = 0.85*winning

From here you probably know what to do. Substitute and work out the algebra to determine the winning jump's length.

winning = 1.12*4.25/0.85 = 5.6

So, the winning jump was 5.6 meters.

Answer:

first = 4.25

her_best = 1.12*first

her_best = 0.85*winning

From here you probably know what to do. Substitute and work out the algebra to determine the winning jump's length.

winning = 1.12*4.25/0.85 = 5.6

So, the winning jump was 5.6 meters.
