Total rupees=400
Money spent on food= 1/2*400=200
Remaining money =200
Money spent on stationary =2/3*200
=400/3
Total money spent=200+(400/3)
=1000/3
Money left =400-(1000/3)
=200/3
= Rs. 66.67 or Rs. 66 2/3

Concept:

Mathematical expression is a mathematical relation or statement or term involves various mathematical quantities, numbers, mathematical operations, variable and other mathematical components etc.

We have to replace the unknown number by variable and have to make a suitable expression using given condition, solving which we can find the required.

Given:

Given that, Sarika had rupees 400 she spent 1/2 of her money on food and 2/3 of the remainder on stationery item.

Find:

The money is left with her.

Solution:

Given that total money she has = 400

1/2 of that she spent on food

So she spent on food = 400*(1/2) = 200 rupees

Now she has left = 400-200 = 200 rupees

2/3 of the rest she spent on stationary item

So she spent on stationary item = 200*(2/3) = 133.33 (approximately)

So she spent total of = 200+133.33 = 333.33 rupees

The money left with her = Total she had - Total she spent

                                        = 400 - 333.33

                                        = 66.67 rupees (approximately)

Hence approximately 66.67 rupees are left with her.
