Sarika is at Coromandel coast she is a little bit confused about whether she is on Eastern Ghat or on Western Ghat of India can you please help her out?
Answers
Sarika is closer to the Eastern Ghats, which lies to the West of the Coromandel Coast.
The Coromandel coast lies in the southeast of India with the Bay of Bengal to its East and the Eastern Ghats to its West. The Utkal plains lie to its North.
This coast covers an area of 22,800 square kilometres and forms part of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The Ports of Chennai and Thoothukudi in this area, are important for shipping of natural and mineral resources from the South of India.
Eastern ghat:
They run in the north-south direction.
They are a series of detached hills between the Mahanadi river and the Vaigai river.
The northern part is 200 km wide while the southern part is only 100 km wide.
Western ghat:
They rise from the Western coastal plain.
They terminate about 20 km north of Cape Comorin.
The Coromandel Coast falls in the rain shadow of the Western Ghats and to the west of the Eastern Ghats which receives good rainfall during the summer .
Hence, sarika is between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal of India.
