Hey There!

Question: Sarita said to her mother,"our exams will start next week."

Well First of all I would like to take this question as Writing the above sentence into reported speech.

So, What is Reported Speech?

Yes!! It's the new name for Indirect Speech. You would be aware of Direct and indirect speech. If Not, I'll explain! ^^

So, Basically in Direct speech, For example you are A.

In Direct speech, whatever A told directly to B would be considered as a Direct Speech.

In Indirect Speech or reported speech whatever conversation happened between A and B, when that is told/reported by C that is Indirect/reported Speech.

Now, In English Grammar when a sentence is in Present tense, it's reported speech will be Simple Past tense.

If sentence is in Past tense then sentence would be Past Perfect.

If sentence is in Present Continuous then it would be Past continuous

If sentence is in Present Perfect then it would be Past Perfect.

When sentences are changed some words get changed accordingly,

For example: This changes to That, These to Those, Today to That day etc.

So Coming to your question!!

Answer: Sarita told her mother that their exams would start the following week.

Explanation: Here, Sentence was in Future tense. Keeping that in mind the words, 'our', 'will', 'next week' Changed to 'their', 'would', 'the following week' respectively.
