area of trapezium is 1/2(sum of parallel sides)*height

let side along road be x , so along canal is 2x

so sum of parallel sides is 3x , height is 125 and area is 1200

so

1200 = 1/2(3x)*125

on solving x = 6.4m

so side along canal is 12.8m

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the parallel sides be a, 2a meters.

(Since one parallel side is twice the other parallel side - Given)

Height = 125 m

Area of trapezium =

1/2 h [sum of parallel sides] sq units.

But area = 1200 sq m. (Given)

Hence,

1/2 (125) (a+2a) = 1200

3a = 1200x2/125 = 48x2/5 = 96/5

a = 96/(3 x 5) = 32/5 = 6.4 m

2a= 2x 6.4 = 12.8 m

Length of the side along the canel =

12.8 m
