As drawn in the figure, let's assume :

⏺length to be = (5x + 4) m and

⏺breadth to be =( x-4 ) m

Given perimeter = 72cm

As we know, perimeter of a rect. =2(l+b) units

Now, 72 = 2( 5x+4 + x-4 )

→ 72 = 10x + 8 + 2x - 8

→ 72-8+8 = 10x + 2x

→ 72 = 12x

→ 72/12 = x

→ 6m = x

Here, we derived the value of x as 6m.

Hence,

length of the rectangle =( 5 x 6 + 4 )= 34m

and

breadth of the rectangle = (6-4) = 2m
