The major difference between the nasal and oral sound is the passageway of air. In case of nasal sound, the air does not leave from the mouth, instead is released through the nose.  

One cannot produce nasal sounds by holding the nose. The nasal sounds are 'm', 'n', and 'ng'. Oral sounds, on the contrary, use the whole of the mouth completely to produce sounds. Therefore,
