11 . Large-scale operators achieved higher resource use efficiency and lower carbon footprints compared to small households.

Large-scale farming operations increased SOC stocks and system productivity in wheat-maize and wheat-rice rotation systems.

Land use transfer and avoiding rice planting in water scarce area can help to gain cleaner production.

12- Seed is a basic input in agriculture. Strictly speaking seed is an embryo, a living organism embedded in the supporting or the food storage tissue. In seed, the importance is given to the biological existence whereas; in grain the importance is given to the supporting tissue the economic produce.

As per Seed Act (1966) seed includes

Seed of food crops including edible oil seeds and seeds of fruits & vegetables.

Cotton seeds

Seeds of cattle fodder

Jute seeds

Seedlings, tubers, bulbs, rhizomes, roots, cuttings, all types of grafts and other vegetatively propagated material for food crops (or) cattle fodder

Importance of quality seed

Ensures genetic and physical purity of the crops

Gives desired plant population

Capacity to withstand the adverse conditions

Seedlings produced will be more vigourous, fast growing and can resist pest and disease incidence to certain extent

Ensures uniform growth and maturity

Development of root system will be more efficient that aids absorption of nutrients efficiently and result in higher yield.

It will respond well to added fertilizer and other inputs.

Good quality seeds of improved varieties ensures higher yield atleast 10 – 12 %

13-weedicides is not the commonly used term . the correct term would be herbicide . herbicides are chemical which used tio kill or subdue the growth of specific plants , usually but not always weed . common herbicides are glyphosate 2,4-D , paraquat , diquat , triclopyr , bromacil , antrazine , simazine etc .

14 - The Effects of Forces. A force acting on an object may cause the object to change shape, to start moving, to stop moving, to accelerate or decelerate. When two objects interact with each other they exert a force on each other, the forces are equal in size but opposite in direction.

The SI unit for pressure is the pascal (Pa), equal to one newton per square metre (N/m2, or kg. m. s−2). This name for the unit was added in 1971; before that, pressure in SI was expressed simply in newtons per square metre.

16 - A non-contact force is a force which acts on an object without coming physically in contact with it. The most familiar example of a non-contact force is gravity, which confers weight. In contrast a contact force is a force applied to a body by another body that is in contact with it.

17-Synthetic fabrics are textiles made from man-made rather than natural fibers. Examples of synthetic fabrics include polyester, acrylic, nylon, rayon, acetate, spandex, lastex, orlon and Kevlar.

18 - Plastics generally have resistance to corrosion and chemicals, low electrical and thermal conductivity, high strength-to-weight ratio, colors available in a wide variety and transparent, resistance to shock, good durability, low cost, are easy to manufacture, resistant to water and have low toxicity.

19 - We should not throw polythene bags in drains because it blocks the drains and the water cannot flow through the drain.
