Answer:

DECOMPOSERS - DEFINITION

The organisms that decompose or break down dead organisms and return the nutrients to the soil are called as decomposers.

For example, bacteria, fungi.

SCAVENGERS - DEFINITION

Scavengers are animals which feed on dead bodies of other organisms.

They have the following characteristics:

These organisms ingest organic matter. They help to break down or reduce organic material into smaller pieces. Thus, they are helpful in quick disposal of dead bodies.

Scavengers are also called as Detrivores. They feed on detritus (decomposing plants and animals as well as faeces).

Unlike carnivores, they don't hunt and kill their prey. They feed on animals that have died due to natural causes or have been killed by another carnivores.

Scavengers play an important role in the food web. They keep the ecosystem free of the bodies of dead animals, or carrion. They break down this organic matter and recycle it into the ecosystem as nutrients.

Explanation:

Examples of scavengers are Ternites, Carrion Beetles, Earthworm and Vultures.
