Answers
Scientists classify rocks into three different types. The main basis for the classification they chose is according to characteristics such as mineral , chemical composition, permeability, texture of the constituent particles and particle size.
1.The three main types, or classes, of rock are sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous and the differences among them have to do with how they are formed. Sedimentary rocks are formed from particles of sand, shells, pebbles, and other fragments of material.
2.Scientists classify the rocks on the basis of how they were formed. Igneous rocks are formed by cooling of magma, Sedimentary rocks are formed by accumulation of dirt over many years, and Metamorphic rocks are formed when Igneous rocks or Sedimentary rocks undergo extreme pressure and temperature, often below the surface of earth.
