Screw gauge is said to have negative error due to the following reasons :

- It's an instrument which is used for measuring the thickness of any metal sheet or for calculating the diameter of any particular thin wire.

- Negative error is seen when the zero division of the head scale is present above the the base line of the main scale.

- When the number is subtracted using all the divisions present on the circular scale and then it's multiplied using the least count of screw gauge then we can see negative error in screw gauge.
