If the question is from the chapter, 'We Aren't Afraid To Die.......' then the answer is as follows:

In order to face the approaching storm the narrator and his crew took the following measures:to slow down the speed, the crew dropped the storm jib (a small sail ); and to further slow down the speed, the crew lashed (tied) the mooring rope around the stern of the boat. This tying of the rope around the stern increased the friction of the boat against the water, leading to the slowing down of the speed.

They double lashed everything, practiced raft-drill, attached lifeline( it actually saved the author from drowning later), donned oilskins and life jackets, these were the security measures that the crew took in order to face the onslaught of the looming storm.

To learn the consequence and the effects of rogue ocean waves on ships , it is very essential to understand the character of rogue waves, its frequency in generating and the causes and the reason behind it.

The incidence of sea waves is highly uncertain matter. If you select a certain zone of the sea surface, the waves flow through that area is periodic in nature.

However, the parameter such as amplitude, period, frequency, height and wavelength will vary and is difficult to evaluate.

Protective measures: Various measures are taken on board to counteract rogue waves, particularly in high sea states.

Induction of Pitching and heaving motions on the For instant ship?

The salient navigational measures is just to mitigate the amplitudes.

This is largely depend on the angle of encountering e and the frequency.

Which is achieved by heading of the ship.

The former is mostly used to reduce unwanted motions on the higher side.
