secA=(x+1/4x)
squaring both sides
sec²A=x²+1/16x²+2 *1/4x*x
or,sec²A=x²+1/16x²+1/2
or,1+tan²A=x²+1/16x²+1/2
or,tan²A=x²+1/16x²-1/2
or,tan²A=(x-1/4x)²
or,tanA=x-1/4x
so secA - tanA=(x+1/4x)-(x-1/4x)
or,secA-tanA=1/2x

Hope it helps.
