you may use Pythagoras theorem in ∆ABC first and then you will get the side ac and again use the Pythagoras theorem in∆ACD , you will get the side AD

In ∆ABC,
AB=BC=1cm
angle B=90°
by phythagorus therom,
AC²=AB²+BC²
AC=√1²+1²
=√2
In ∆ACD,
AC=√2cm
CD=12cm
angle C=90°
by phythagorus therom,
AD²=AC²+CD²
AD²=√2²+12²
=2+144
=146
AD=√146cm
