The new teacher
could not stomach a Hindu priest's son sitting with a muslim
Boy. In accordance with our social ranking as the new teacher saw it. I was asked to go and sit
on the back bench. I felt very sad, and so did Ramanadha sastry. He looked utterly down cast as
I shifted to my seat in the last row. The image of him weeping when I shifted to the last row
left a lasting impression on me.
Questions: 1. Whom does 'He' refer to in the above lines ?

- Ramanandha sastry is referred to as he here.
- He was sad and depressed as his favourite and best friend was not allowed to sit with him.
- The teacher was a kind of person who was very conscious about the religious and caste differences between people and did not think that if was appropriate for students of different religions and castes to mingle and sit with each other.
