Organic sedimentary rocks form from the remains of living things.

Organic sedimentary rocks are those which are formed from the remains of “living organisms”. Sedimentary rocks from living are formed when the remains of these organisms get trapped in the layers of sedimentation over a long period of time. Eventually based on the “amount of carbon” present in these rocks, they are either found in the form of coal or limestone.

Most forms of fossil fuels are derived from organic ‘sedimentary rocks’. The ‘organic matter’ includes plant matter such as leaves, roots, grass, etc., and animal such as ‘bones’, ‘teeth’, and ‘shells’.
