Given:

In Figure, Chord LM = Chord LN and ∠L = 40 °

To Find:

i) m(arc MN)

ii)m(arc LN)

Proof:

▪ (i) ∠L = 1/2 m(arc MN) ...inscribed angle theorem.

∴ 40 = 1/2 m(arc MN)

∴ 2 × 40 = m(arc MN)

∴ m(arc MN) = 80°

▪ (ii) m(arc MLN) = 360° - m(arc MN)

= 360 - 80 = 280°

Now, Chord LM = Chord LN

∴ arc LM = arc LN

but m(arc LM) + m(arc LN) = m(arc MLN) = 280° ..arc addition property

m(arc LM) = m(arc LN) = 280/2 = 140°
