Answer:

y = 5x

Step-by-step explanation:

Target = Rs 1000

Earnings:

1 km = Rs 10 ÷ 2

1 km = Rs 5

⇒ The drive earns Rs 5 for every 1 km travelled

Define x and y:

Let x be the amount number of km traveled.

Let y be the total amount of money earned.

Form the linear equation:

y = 5x

------- Not in the question ----------

Find the number of hours that the driver needs to travel to earn his Rs 1000.

y = Rs 1000

5x = Rs 1000

x = 1000 ÷ 5 = 200 hours

The driver needs to drive for 200 hours to reach his target of Rs 1000
