Yes it's very much true and it can be proved as

As we know that in this collision process, mass is conserved.

And also the momentum is conserved in the collision( by the statement of law of conservation of momentum)

As we know in the case before collision:-

m1v1=p1

And in the after collision :-

m2v2= p2

where m1 and m2 are equal

also p1 and p2 are equal so v2 and v1 must be equal.
