Select the rate law that corresponds to data shown for the
following reaction [1994]
A + B → products.
Exp. [A] [B] Initial rate
1 0.012 0.035 0.1
2 0.024 0.070 0.8
3 0.024 0.035 0.1
4 0.012 0.070 0.8
(a) rate = k [B]³
(b) rate = k [B]²
(c) rate = k [A] [B]³
(d) rate = k [A]² [B]²

The rate law that corresponds to data shown for the following reaction is :

Reaction: A + B → products.

1. From first data, we can see that when concentration of A and B were doubled then rate of reaction fastened by 8 times.

2. From second data, it is clear that rate does not depends on concentration of A and get 8 times faster when concentration of B gets doubled.

• We can conclude that, rate varies directly with the cube of concentration of B.

So rate law is : rate = k [B]³

Correct option : (a)
