A student needs self respect. Marks are just numbers that can give you a career. But self respect can give you a lot of love from the people. Both are important in your life. They both r like right and left eyes. U cant live without right eye. U even can't live without left one. So both r important in a students life..... I hope my answer was useful.

Yes, marks are important but what good are they if they have been achieved by means of cheating or copying. Any self respecting individual would prefer to get marks based on his/her merit.
It is the responsibility and duty of the teacher to promote self respect and confidence in his students.
For example, if a student fairs poorly in an exam or test and his teacher humiliates him.now the student may be prompted to cheat in his next test to avoid this humiliation. On the other hand if the teacher supports the student, helps him in studies and if this results in marginal improvement in the students grades, then his confidence will be boosted. His self respect is not harmed but honored. This will prompt the student to study harder.
So we can conclude that self respect is better than marks
