Given :   trail is a loop that is 3/4 of a mile long. On Monday, Selma ran the loop in 1/6 of an hour.

To find : Selma’s unit rate in miles per hour for Monday’s run

Solution:

trail is a loop that is 3/4 of a mile long

=> Distance covered  = 3/4  miles

Time taken = 1/6  hr

to have common denominator lets take LCM of Denominators 4 & 6

4 = 2 * 2

6 = 2 * 3

LCM ( 4 , 6) = 2 * 2 * 3 = 12

3/4  =  9/12  Miles

1/6 hr  = 2/12  hr

Selma’s unit rate in miles per hour  =  (9/12) / ( 2/12)  miles per hr

= 9/2  miles per hr

= 4.5 Miles per hr
