According to Sir Isaac Newton's 1st law of motion, "every object in the universe ,having a mass, has the tendency to remain in its state of motion unless and until an external agent is acted upon it."
So as Selvi started driving her car, the car came to motion as well as everything inside it according to a point of reference outside the car.
When she stopped driving , due to the inertia of motion of the purse , the purse kept on moving until it was stopped by body of the car.
So the purse fell down
