The floods were the worst flood ever in history. approximately 489 people found dead, 68 people were missed, millions were homeless, government evacuated many from being taken away by flood from all affected towns and villages. The fourteen regions of the state were placed on red alert.Many dams were opened emergence to control the hazard, about thirty-five out of the fifty-four dams was opened within the state in history. The five overflow gates of the Idukki Dam were opened at the same time, for the first time in history and even the 5 gates of the Malampuzha dam of Palakkad were opened.
