- Affects the relationship with others.

- May result in anti-social behaviors.

Child rights in India

Child Rights Charter 2003 states that “All children have a right to be protected against neglect, maltreatment, injury, trafficking, sexual and physical abuse of all kinds, corporal punishment, torture, exploitation, violence and degrading treatment.”

National Plan of Action for Children in 2005 emphasizes prohibition and elimination of corporal punishments in schools.

New laws are being framed against corporal punishment to protect children at home, at school and anywhere.

Corporal punishment is described as the use of physical attack to a  child for the control and corrective action by authority.


This is also applied as a disciplinary penalty inflicted on the body of the child with the motivation of causing some degree of pain, mental shock or discomfort, however mild.


Corporal punishment is related to hitting the children with a hand or a stick or leather belt and many more.


Other forms of corporal punishment include are more painful such as :Kicking the body, shaking, biting and forcing a child to stay in uncomfortable condition or posture as indicated in United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, 2006.


Some other forms also include punishment which is a little, humiliating, Threatening.
