let me get u understand the fact that in all the questions you cannot subtract or add because they are two different quantities you don't know, so they are expressed in the form of alphabets. so if you get questions like this and if they ask you to simplify questions like this all you can do is take common outside.
consider the first question,
x²-x.
x² is different from x as it is double of it. since we do not know it, we cannot solve it. however we can see that x² and x have x as common. so we can take that out because it is common. so it is going to be...
x(x-1)
because when we multiply the outside 'x' to the 'x' inside the bracket we get back x² then put the same subtraction sign and when you multiply the 'x' outside the bracket to the 1 which is inside the bracket, you again get back x. this is the way to know what you have done is correct or not...
in this you take out whatever is common and write whatever is remaining after taking out the common from two different quantities.
