Husk is separated from heavier seeds of grain by the process known as winnowing .

Usually, there are different size of particles in a mixture and the same sized particles is utilised by the process of seiving and filtration .

Winnowing:-

Winnowing is a farming methid, developed by ancient people for separating grain from chaff. It is also used to remove weevils or other pests from stored grain.

Threshing is the loosening of grain or serds from the husks and straw.

Threshing is the process which we use before winnowing .

On the other hand, winnowing can also be defined as -

The process in which heavier components ofthe mixture are separated from the lighter substances with the help if air current or wind .

The heavier particles forms a separate heap, as it falls vertically downwards.

Advantages of Winnowing :-

Disadvantages of Winnowing :-

  • Winnowing is defined as the process in which heavier components of the mixture is separated from its lighter components, it does not work for materials heavier than grains,like stones.
