The beggar was not fit for work.he was a drunkard and had an empty stomach for days.the Sergei was angry with the lies told by the beggar.maybe so he refused to give beggar food first.in my opinion the sergei should have given the beggar first food and then work.this would create a mind and physical ability to work for the beggar.
