Serum ferritin in iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy

In pregnant women with anemia, iron deficiency is present if the ferritin is less than 40 ng/mL. If a pregnant woman is not anemic, iron deficiency is present if the ferritin is less than 15 ng/mL. Hemoglobin concentration less than 11 g/dL, or hematocrit less than 33% (diagnosis of anemia).

The blood consists of iron and when there is a deficiency of iron the anaemia is caused.
