seventy-two is divided into two parts such that twelve times of first when added to the five times of second parts makes 472. Find each part.

Let the numbers be x, 72-x

According to the problem,

12x + 5(72-x) = 472

12x + 360 - 5x = 472

7x = 472-360

= 112

x = 112/7

x = 16

Therefore, numbers are 16 and 56
