Gaura  Devi was a social movement activist. She was posted to Uttarakhand. She was very concerned about the environment.  

   She taught people to fight against deforestation and the raise in environmental issues.

   As a result a movement started in the year 1885 and the beginning of 1886 known as the Chipko movement.  

   This movement gained a lot of support from all sections of the society. It became very popular in around 14 states of India.
